Food drive planned

Allegany Dental Care will hold its fifth annual food drive during the month of February. The staff will accept donations of nonperishable food items at its three locations. All food collected will be donated to Food Resources Inc.

The locations are: 19418 Leitersburg Pike (across from the new post office and Lyles Center); 22109 Jefferson Blvd. (near Smithsburg); and 17719 Virginia Ave. (near the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Halfway Boulevard). The offices are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The best losers for the week for TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0077 were Dianne Keely and Joan Gilbert. The best KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) losers were Bonnie Barnhart, Imogene Foltz, Mary Jo Cunningham, Kathy Renner and Cindy Ryder.

The no-no snack for the week is candy. Deloris Hays won the ha-ha prize.

Patsy Martin presented information from “The Choice is Mine” book on the BMI index and how it indicates the levels between healthy weight, overweight, moderate obesity and severe obesity. 

Several members read letters from soldiers who received Christmas cards sent by the chapter. 

Chapter members recently donated more than 100 blankets and towels to the Humane Society of Washington County. Group leaders Patsy Price and Patsy Martin organized the event. Barb Trumpower dropped off the donation at the shelter.

Basket bingo

The North High Band Boosters will hold a Vera Bradley, Longaberger and Thirty-one bingo Sunday, Feb. 19, at the American Legion on Northern Avenue.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and games begin at 1 p.m. Tickets cost $20 for 20 games. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact the school at 301-766-8238.

Little League rules clinic

Starting Tuesday, Feb. 7, Maryland District 1 Little League will conduct a rules and umpire clinic every Tuesday in February from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Church of God on Leitersburg Pike.

Baseball/softball managers, coaches, umpires and intersted parents are encouraged to attend the sessions. There are several significant rule changes this year.

The clinic is free to volunteers.

Pet photos

Studio 3 Photography, owned by Kim McMillion, will host My Fuzzy Valentine, a photography fundraiser for the Humane Society of Washington County. 

Props will be available to be photographed with your pet on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 6 S. Main St. in Boonsboro.

Photos will cost $10 each and 50 percent of the proceeds will be donated to the shelter. 

If you bring an animal-related item as a donation to the shelter, the cost will be $5 and the entire amount will be donated to the animal shelter. Reservations are encouraged and can be made by calling 240-818-5833. 

Street parking is available in front of the studio.
