Richard Delroy Mackereth, 66, of 967 Noland Drive in Hagerstown, Md., died Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md.

Born April 1, 1945, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Clifton Hoe and Evelyn Gertrude Robinson Mackereth.

He was a 1965 graduate of North Hagerstown High School.

He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.

Richard was employed by CSX, retiring after 34 years of service.

He was a member of Last Man’s Club, Funkstown American Legion Post 211, Western Maryland Railway Old Timers Club, Loyal Order of Moose in Waynesboro, Pa., Goodwill Athletic Association and Williamsport Red Men 84. He was an avid golfer, and he enjoyed playing and watching basketball.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Brenda Henson Mackereth; one daughter, Amy Rudisill and husband, Gary, of Martinsburg, W.Va.; three sisters, Gay Younker and husband, Vernon, Elva Ann Strubel and husband, Ronnie, and Carol Whitmore, all of Hagerstown; one brother, Larry W. Mackereth Sr. and wife, Sharon, of Hagerstown; one brother-in-law, Terry Henson and wife, Debra, of Hagerstown; two sisters-in-law, Deanna Rudisill of Hagerstown and Becky Gilmer of Martinsburg; three grandchildren, Logan, and twins, Brayden and Connor; stepgranddaughter, Taylor Rudisill; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, K.C.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kelly Mackereth; and two brothers, Clifton O’Neal and Elliott McClellan.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Major Dan Turner of The Salvation Army will officiate. 

Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, with military honors provided by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
