Spirit of Christmas can last all year

To the editor:

Christmas day has passed, but only the day. Christmas itself is still here. You see it in the bright eyes and laughter of our youth, on the table set with nourishing meals and desserts, in hugs and kisses for the older folks as well as the young. Games that exercise the brain. Conversations about everything. Happiness lingers for most of us, but not all.

When God calls our loved ones home, we know they are in a better place, but the vacancy hurts. We are thankful for our gifts, and we think of those who haven’t any. Material gifts that is. We have all been given the greatest gift of salvation. Some accept it gratefully. Some can’t see the importance of it. Thousands of people are accepting Jesus as their Savior. That is the greatest news we could ever hear.

So let us keep Christmas in our hearts, our homes and our work places, hospitals and nursing homes, schools, sports and churches. This will add years and happiness to our lives. It will keep our supply of faith, strength, love, understanding and forgiveness filled to capacity. A new year dawns and our Savior’s nail-pierced hand is reaching down to support us through whatever it brings.
