Symphony Saturdays deadline nears

The Maryland Symphony Orchestra Guild announces the opening of registration for "Symphony Saturdays" beginning in February.

 The series consists of four sessions designed to introduce children in grades first through third to orchestra instruments and to provide them with hands-on experience in playing them.

The program will runs consecutive Saturdays:

  •  Feb. 4 — introduction to string instruments
  •  Feb. 11 —percussion
  •  Feb. 18 — woodwinds
  •  Feb. 25 — brass

Members of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra will be on hand to play and talk about their instruments and help participants play them as well.

The sessions will be at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 141 S. Potomac St., in Hagerstown with the exception of the percussion session, which will take place at the Maryland Theater. The cost is $25 per child for all four Saturdays. Children must be accompanied by a parent, who may attend free of charge.  Symphony Saturday T-shirts are available for an additional $8.
