Thomas Nevin Thompson Sr., 64, of  Hagerstown, Md., died on Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore, Md.

Born Sept. 22, 1947, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Thomas William Thompson and Bessie Mae Flurie Thompson Burns.

Tommy loved to fish, and he also loved history and the blues.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Weaver Thompson; children, Thomas N. Thompson Jr. and Kristen Thompson, both of Morgantown, W.Va., and Kathryn Settle of Smithsburg, Md.; sisters, Sallie Thompson, Susan Burns, Nancy Burns and Mary Burns, all of Hagerstown; stepchildren, Tara Cook of Mont Alto, Pa., and Michelle Long of Hedgesville, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, George L. Burns Jr.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Beaver Creek Country Club, 9535 Mapleville Road, Hagerstown. Bishop R. Brian Stoops will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
