Margaret R. Garrett, 91, of Gaithersburg, Md., formerly of Friendship Heights, Washington, D.C., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012.
 
She was the wife of the late Roscoe F. Garrett, who passed away May 16, 1981.

Born March 8, 1920, in Burdett, Montgomery County, Md., Mrs. Garrett was the daughter of the late Genevieve Thompson Reid Schwartz and Ralph R. Reid. 

She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Washington, D.C.  She was a lifelong member of Wisconsin Avenue Baptist Church and served there as Sunday school teacher, Sunday school secretary, deaconess, church secretary, church clerk and as a member of numerous committees. 

Mrs. Garrett was employed at Sears, Roebuck and Co. from 1951 until she retired as the secretary to the group merchandise manager of the Washington, D.C., area group in 1985. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and needlepoint. She was a member of Friendship Chapter 17 of the Eastern Star. 

Surviving in addition to her son, Norman F. Garrett, and his wife, Betty, of Hagerstown, Md., are two grandchildren, Shannon F. Garrett and wife, Jennifer, of Catonsville, Md., and Brennan J. Garrett and wife, Carol Anne, of Smithsburg, Md.; four great-grandchildren, Adler Garrett, Zane Garrett, Zackary Garrett and Austin Garrett; and a brother, Raymond W. Reid, and wife, Doris, of Rockville, Md., along with several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph O. Reid and James E. Reid. 

Funeral services will be held at the DeVol Funeral Home in Gaithersburg, Md., on Thursday, Jan. 19. Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Parklawn Memorial Park, Rockville, following the service. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Garrett’s name to Wisconsin Avenue Baptist Church, 3920 Alton Place NW, Washington, DC 20016.
