On Dec. 15, Girls Inc. of Washington County held its winter dance performance.

The event was an opportunity for the girls to perform and show off their dance skills to family and friends.

The classes were made possible through a partnership with Girls Inc. and Hoodhop Inc.

Hoodhop Inc., founded in 2004, is a nonprofit dance organization that brings dance lessons to youths and teens in Washington County. Hoodhop has launched dance programs in the government housing neighborhoods, summer camps, community centers, schools and juvenile corrections facility.

Its mission is to empower and encourage youths by utilizing the outlet of dance. It has teamed up with Girls Inc. to create a multi-faceted dance program for girls.

The girls have learned several styles of dance, including gliding, tut, break dancing, hip hop, salsa, dancehall and step.

Girls Inc., at 626 Washington Ave. in Hagerstown, is an after-school program for girls 6 to 18 years old. Since last summer, more than 70 girls have participated in the Girls Inc. dance program.

The girls also had the opportunity to perform during the halftime show in December for the Mason-Dixon Roller Vixens at Turners Skate Palace.
