Mark D. Durst, 52, of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at his home, surrounded by family and friends, following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Lee and Elsie Eckel; and his beloved cat, Shania.

Born March 10, 1959, in Hagerstown, Mark is survived by his wife, Keann M. Durst. He also is survived by his mother, Mary Arlene Embly and husband, Richard Sr.; father, James Francis Durst and wife, Beverly; brother, James J. Durst; sister, Rhonda A. Durst; grandson, Gambit R. Durst; great-granddaughter, Lainie Durst; nieces, Jasmine and Jada Frisby, and Cierra Durst; and nephew, Tyler Durst.

Mark was a 1977 graduate of North Hagerstown High School and was employed as a skilled bricklayer and mason for 33 years.

He was a member of the Hagerstown Eagles Club and an avid horseshoes player.

Memorial services will be Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at Covenant Life Church, 1515 Dual Highway, Hagerstown. It will begin with visitation at 9 a.m. and service at 10 a.m., officiated by Pastor Tim Fisher, with light refreshments to follow.

The family would like to express its gratitude for the outpouring of support by Hospice and countless friends, and a special thanks to mother-in-law, Freda Franklin.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County and Covenant Life Church.
