Olive Ruth Alger, 81, of 310 Cameo Drive, Hagerstown, Md., passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, at Autumn Assisted Living Center.

Born Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1930, in Shippensburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Edward Angle and the late Sophie Varner Angle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard C. Alger, in 1996.

She graduated from Shippensburg High School, and after raising her family, she was employed as a social worker for Telamon Corp., retiring in 1992 after 20 years of service.

She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Order of the Eastern Star Queen Esther Chapter and the Mason Dixon Antique Auto Club.

Olly was an avid oil painter and was also a member of the Valley Art Association.

She is survived by her daughter, Beth Ann Everhart and husband, Michael, of Hagerstown; grandson, Daniel Everhart of Baltimore, Md.; granddaughter, Katie Everhart, also of Baltimore; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Edith Angle, Beulah Angle, Elsie Angle Coy and Ethel Angle Mellinger; and brothers, Paul Angle, Lynn Angle, Roy Angle, Clarence Angle, Lee Angle, Dale Angle, Earle Angle and Harold Angle.

Services will be Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 18313 Lappans Road, Boonsboro, Md., with the Rev. Anne O. Weatherholt officiating.

Family will receive friends at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Interment will be in the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Cemetery.
