Navy Seaman Andrea C. Bemisderfer, daughter of Karen A. Sipes of Williamsport, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Bemisderfer is a 2007 graduate of Washington County Technical High School.

Air Force Airman William T. Atkins, son of Christina and Terry Atkins of Rohrersville, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

Atkins is a 2010 graduate of Boonsboro High School.

Navy Seaman Christopher J. Garten, son of Monica L. and Jeffrey E. Garten of Middletown, Md., recently was selected to receive the Academic Excellence Award of his recruit company at Recruiting Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Garten was cited for outstanding performance by a single recruit in his company while undergoing recruit training. Garten’s commitment to excellence put his performance above all of his peers.

This award is presented to the sailor who achieved the highest overall academic score during recruit training.

Garten is a 2005 graduate of Urbana High School of Ijamsville, Md.

Navy Seaman Merissa A. Progar, daughter of Nancy A. and Joseph J. Progar of Thurmont, Md., recently reported for duty at Navy and Marine Intelligence Training Center, Virginia Beach, Va.

Progar is a 1996 graduate of Catoctin High School in Thurmont, and joined the Navy Reserve in September.

Coast Guard Fireman Devin A. Erfourth, daughter of Mary C. Mossburg of Frederick, Md.. and Timothy Erfourth, of Brunswick, Md., recently graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J.

Erfourth is a 2010 graduate of Walkersville (Md.) High School.

Navy Seaman Amber M. Glessner, daughter of Susan M. Glessner and Michael L. Glessner Jr. of McConnellsburg, Pa., recently re-enlisted for four years while serving with Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 48, Naval Air Facility, Andrews Air Force Base, Md.

Glessner is a 2005 graduate of Southern Fulton Senior High School in Warfordsburg, Pa., and joined the Navy in July 2008.
