GIRLS SWIMMING

Gaels set record in sweep

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — St. Maria Goretti’s Theresa Barton, Keeley Scott, Cassidy Lippert and Emma Whelan combined to set a school and pool record in the 200-yard freestyle relay with their winning time of 1:50.15 during the Gaels’ sweep of Musselman and Hedgesville on Saturday at Shepherd University.

Goretti defeated Musselman 77-17 and Hedgesville 58-36.

Whelan also won the 50 freestyle (27.09) and 100 freestyle (1:00.50) and teamed with Amanda Meinschein, Scott and Jenna Katrina to win the 200 medley relay (2:11.93).

Lippert also won the 200 freestyle (2:14.41) and 100 breaststroke and teamed with Barton, Meinschein and Katrina to win the 400 freestyle relay (4:21.10).

Annie Cochran won the 100 butterfly (1:13.29), Meinschein won the 500 freestyle (6:00.93) and Scott won the 100 backstroke (1:10.37).

Gaels split at Shepherd

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — St. Maria Goretti beat Hedgesville 60-33 and lost to Musselman 52-42 in a meet at Shepherd University on Saturday.

Josh Semler and Ian Moss each had two victories for Goretti. Semler won the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.02) and 100 freestyle (54.55), while Moss won the 50 freestyle (24.93) and 100 backstroke (1:05.47).
