Cabin fever picnic planned at John Wesley

John Wesley United Methodist Church, at 129 N. Potomac St. in Hagerstown, will host a cabin fever picnic Saturday, Jan. 28, from noon to 4 p.m.

It will include bingo, beanbag toss, miniature golf, spoon races, a sing-along, door prizes and other activities.

The menu includes burgers, hot dogs, potato salad, macaroni salad, baked beans, chips, beverage and a sundae bar. Tickets cost $8 for adults and $4 for those ages 4 to 12. Those younger than 4 will be admitted free. The public is invited.

Pancake breakfast planned for Jan. 28

The annual pancake breakfast to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Washington County will be held Saturday, Jan. 28, from 7 to 11 a.m. at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave. in Hagerstown.

The menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, fruit, coffee, tea, milk and orange juice.

Tickets at the door, in the fellowship hall, cost $6. Those 6 and younger eat free.

TOPS 0446

This week's thinner winner for TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0446 was Marie E., who lost 7.2 pounds. Judy G. came in second with a loss of 4 pounds.

The chapter had a net weekly loss of 33 pounds.

Carolyn's mother, Evelyn, visited from out of state. Mary shared some details of the year-end report, including the chapter's average loss for the year of more than 7 pounds per member. Darlene presided over the monthly awards presentation. Carolyn and Marie H., the newest KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) members, received their gold sashes. Judy H. and Elise tied as December's shining star winners.

Meetings are held Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Weigh-in is at 8:45 a.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road, Hagerstown.

TOPS 0077         

Losses for the week totaled 46 1/4 pounds for TOPS Chapter 0077.  

The best TOPS losers were Janice Frye with 6 pounds lost and Susie Sword with 5 pounds lost. The best KOPS losers were Deloris Hays and Mary Jo Cunningham (the newest KOPS).

Dottie Alexander won the ha-ha prize. The no-no snack for the week is french fries.  

The chapter held awards week. Seventy-nine members weighed in for the month of December and 31 had perfect attendance.  

The shining stars were Betty Rice and Dottie Zimmerman. Honored KOPS included Kathy Renner, Maida Law and Darla Hartley. The best TOPS losers for December were Peggy Robinson and JoAnn M. JoAnn is halfway to her goal and Charlie House is one- fourth of the way to his.

Winners of the December contest were Janice Frye for TOPS and Judy Purdham for KOPS. Pat Hicks won the yearly TOPS prize for most weight lost. Cindy Ryder was randomly chosen as the winner for KOPS.

Blankets and towels for the animal shelter will be collected by the chapter.
