AAUW has scholarships available

January 15, 2012

Applications for AAUW scholarships are available at the guidance departments of Washington County public and private high schools, and Hagerstown Community College.

The Hagerstown branch of the American Association of University Women, or AAUW, makes available scholarship money to a number of Washington County residents each year.

Applicants must be female residents of the county with plans to obtain a bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university. They may be high school seniors, students who are already in college, or women who have been out of school for some time and wish to return.

Selection is based on academic grades, extracurricular activities and financial need.

The scholarships are raised through the AAUW used book sales held in the fall and spring of each year. The next sale is scheduled for April 19 to 21 at 1000 Florida Ave. in Hagerstown.

Anyone who would like an application form, but has no access to one at school can call 301-797-0525.  If there is no answer, the caller may leave her name, mailing address and phone number, and one will be mailed to her.

The deadline for completed applications is Tuesday, March 6. Any received after that date will not be considered.
