WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Smithsburg graduate Katie Sprecher had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds to lead Hagerstown Community College to a 57-40 win over Delaware Tech in a nonconference matchup Friday night at the HCC athletic complex.

The win gives HCC coach Marlys Palmer 597 for her career. Palmer has announced she will retire at the end of the season.

Ashley Smothers had 11 points and six assists for the Hawks (15-1). Akatshi Osongo had nine points and Jasmine Reynolds had nine points and five steals for the Hawks.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Goretti 66, John Carroll 63

St. Maria Goretti handled John Carroll’s pressure defense in the first quarter and held on in the fourth to claim a third-straight Baltimore Catholic League victory.

The Gaels (16-5, 5-2) started the BCL season by losing its first five contests.

Goretti took John Carroll’s pressure head on to score easy baskets and take an 18-8 lead, then held on for the victory. The Gaels barely survived a 33-27 battle in the fourth quarter.

Tyrus Fleetwood led the Gaels with 23 points while Martin Geben added 13.
