1. Say it Out Loud

Winning students from Poetry Out Loud school competitions will compete in the Washington County competition of the Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Washington County Public Schools Central Office, 820 Commonwealth Ave., Hagerstown. Three winners will advance to the regional Poetry Out Loud contest Saturday, Feb. 11. For information, call 410-767-6476 or 410-908-2135.


2. Jazzing up an evening

5. Texas and teens

Shepherdstown Film Society will open up its season Friday, Jan. 20, with  "The Last Picture Show," 1971 (R), The story explores the dreams and doubts of a group of high school students coming of age in the early 1950s in a town that is losing hope.
