William Eugene Knipple, 77, of Falling Waters, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012 at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Oct. 22, 1934 in Falling Waters, he was the son of the late Schoenberger and Lula Mae Guessford Knipple.

He was employed by the 76 Truck Stop, Falling Waters, for 20 years, until retiring in 2006.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force. He served during the Vietnam War.

He was a member of St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church, Williamsport.

He was a member of VFW of Hagerstown, and Catholic War Veterans of Leitersburg, Md.

Survivors include daughter, Pearl Northrup, of Fort Myers, Fla.; sister, Ruth Gross, of Falling Waters; sister, Abby Shoop, of Hagerstown; and two grandchildren.

He was predeceased by one sister, Cora Jane Knipple, and one brother, Ulysses Grant Knipple.

The family will receive friends at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 1 p.m. Sunday for the convenience of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Monday, Jan. 16, 2012 at 2 p.m., with Monsignor Alfred Smith officiating. Interment will be in Harmony Cemetery, Falling Waters. Military graveside services will be provided by AMVETS Post 10 and Marine Corps League of Hagerstown.
