HAGERSTOWN — The east side of Summit Avenue between West Lee Street and West Baltimore Street and the eastbound lane of West Lee Street between Summit Avenue and Hood Street were closed Thursday.

A worker for Columbia Gas who did not give his name said crews from the company were working on a gas line in the area.

Crews from Columbia Gas have working in the area since Monday. Alley 2-94 between West Baltimore and West Lee Streets has been closed since then while a gas main is being replaced, according to a traffic advisory from the City of Hagerstown's website, www.hagerstownmd.org.

The Columbia Gas worker said that the work on Summit Avenue and West Lee Street was related to the work being done on the gas main in the alley.

The work has involved excavation in the area. It should be completed by Friday afternoon, which is when the roads should reopen.
