Retreat will focus on Rumi

January 12, 2012

SHARPSBURG — The Interfaith Coalition of Washington County presents a retreat Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Shepherd's Spring Retreat facility in Sharpsburg. The retreat runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and is about "The Poetic Imagination of Rumi and the Return to Original Unity" facilitated by the Rev. Glenn Mitchell.

The retreat will explore how the ancient poetry of Rumi can speak to all traditions, and lead followers into a perspective of peace and a feeling of connection that transcends religious barriers. Rumi was a Sufi poet from the 1200s. He influenced both the Islamic world and more recently, the Western countries.

The Rev. Mitchell has been the director of training for Oasis Ministries of Camp Hill, Pa., since 2001. He also has a private practice of spiritual direction and retreat leadership. He has received the Church of the Brethren Annual Ecumenical Award.

The retreat will include moments for individual renewal, as well as group sharing. No prior familiarity with Rumi or poetry is necessary for the retreat. The cost of the retreat is $35. For more information and to register, contact Ed Poling 301-733-3565 or elpoling1@gmail.com. Registration is required by Monday, Jan. 30.
