Ralph Curtis Myers, 84, of Marlowe, W.Va., passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at Williamsport Retirement Village. Ralph was born June 23, 1927, in Gerrardstown, W.Va., the son of the late Raleigh Wesley and Ada Anna Beavers Myers Unger. His father died in 1929 and Ralph was raised by his maternal grandparents, Baker and Virgie Beavers of Berkeley Station.  

He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, having served aboard the USS Queens in the South Pacific during WWII.

Ralph had been employed by Hagerstown Rubber Co.; was self-employed, operating RCM Janitorial Service, Koffee Korner Restaurant and Kando Kleaning Co.; and retired as manager of Williamsport American Legion.

He attended Independent Bible Church of Martinsburg. He was an honorary life member of The American Legion, Potomac Post 202, Williamsport, where he was a past post commander and formed the post’s SAL Squadron. He was a past commander of the Washington County Council of The American Legion, Department of Maryland. He was a member and past president of the Post 202 Second Last Man’s Club. He was a past president of the Washington County Club Association, life member of VFW Post 1936 of Hagerstown, member-at-large of AMVETS, member of IORM Tribe No. 84 of Williamsport and a charter member of Sons of Confederate-Berkeley Border Guards Camp No. 199 of Martinsburg.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Christinia Knighten Myers; two sons, Richard Lee Myers of Williamsport and William Ralph Myers of Hagerstown; six daughters, Vickie Lynn Weller of Aiken, S.C., Christinia Marie Durboraw of Hagerstown, Cheryl Elizabeth Slonaker of Falling Waters, Charmain Paula Summers of Hagerstown, Mary Lu Jean SanCartier of Spanaway, Wash., and Jane Renee Reinmuth of Williamsport; a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, as well as stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren and stepgreat-great-grandchildren; several cousins; nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by one brother, James B. Myers, and two sisters, Catherine Witmer and Elizabeth Rowland; one son, Curtis Wesley Myers; and one daughter, Charlene Anne Potts; and his stepfather, Dewey Unger.

The family will receive friends at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. Thursday for the convenience of family and friends.

Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Mark Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport. Military honors will be provided by AMVETS Post No. 10 and Marine Corps League of Hagerstown, Md.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 N.W. 9th Ave., Bob Hope Research Center, Miami, FL 33136-1494 for Parkinson’s research.
