Helen Ruth Chapman, 91, died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at Broadmore Senior Living Center, Hagerstown, Md.

Born Oct. 31, 1920, in Hagerstown, Helen was the daughter of the late Harry Roy and Christiana Elizabeth (Bailey) Cromer.

She was the wife of the late Harlan Douglas Chapman, who died Sept. 25, 1992.

Helen graduated from South Hagerstown High School in the class of 1939.

She was a homemaker and past member of Ladies of the Elks and Associates Lodge 378, Hagerstown; Washington County AMVETS Post 10, Hagerstown; North American Rod & Gun Club, Hagerstown; Potomac Fish & Game Club, Williamsport, Md.; Improved Order of Red Men Lodge 84, Williamsport; and Trinity Lutheran Church, Hagerstown.

Helen is survived by a daughter, Linda D. Potts, and a son, Douglas V. Chapman, both of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Barlup Taylor; and four brothers, Albert R. Cromer, H. Earl Cromer, Lester L. Cromer and Robert V. Cromer.

The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at Greenlawn Cemetery, Williamsport. The Rev. Eric Henderson will officiate.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, Bryan K. Kenworthy P.A., 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
