Remembering Miss Wilda

Funkstown values its residents. As a matter of fact, residents cherish them. Some of our residents are more than that. They are more than valued members of our community. They are more than neighbors. They are dear friends and mentors. Recently, the town lost Miss Wilda Hicks. She and her husband, Gerald, both knew and embraced that sense of community that only resides in a small town. With no children of their own, they acted as surrogates to all the children of the town. Gerald could be seen toting his trumpet to church and other gatherings to entertain, and was known to even share his talents by tutoring some of the community’s children.

Wilda was a giving woman whose unselfish nature and gift of baking will be remembered, especially her “extra-special lemon tarts.”

It’s not often that two lives have touched a town so deeply and our town would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Hicks for giving of themselves so freely and completely.
