About three acres of woodlands burned near Harpers Ferry Road

January 07, 2012

DARGAN, Md. — A brush fire near Harpers Ferry Road on Saturday consumed about three acres of woodlands, said Eric Gray, chief of the Potomac Valley Fire Company.

The fire got as close as 100 feet to a home in the Hawks Hill development, he said.

As the fire spread up a hill behind 2809 Harpers Ferry Road and started toward Flintlock Court, a second call for assistance went out.

Gray said the Maryland Forest Service was investigating the cause of the fire.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 2:12 p.m. and stayed for nearly three hours, Gray said.

About 33 firefighters from Washington County and Jefferson County, W.Va., helped on the call, he said.

A crew from Frederick County, Md., sent an engine to Potomac Valley’s station for backup.
