Marguerite L. Brezler, a former Hagerstown resident, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, from complications due to vascular dementia in Pasadena, Calif., surrounded by loved ones.

Born Jan. 16, 1929, in Grimes, Md., she was the daughter of the late Earl L. Cave and Virginia Sowers-Cave.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark (Buck) S. Brezler Sr., in September 2008.

Marguerite was a current member of Funkstown American Legion Auxiliary Post 211, and past member of Hagerstown BPO Elks 378.

She had been a lifelong resident of Hagerstown until her husband’s death in 2008. She established residence in Pasadena with her daughter, Linda, in October 2008, and became a resident of Jasmin Terrace Assisted Living retirement home in March 2009.  

Survivors include her daughter, Linda L. Wilhide; son-in-law, John E. Wilhide; granddaughter, Julie Ann Wilhide-Sandoval; and four great-grandchildren residing in Pasadena.

In Maryland, she is survived by two stepdaughters, Susan R. McCarney and Trisha A. Brezler-Calandrelle; and four stepsons, Mark S. Brezler Jr., Stephen K. Brezler, Ronald B. Brezler and Brian L. Brezler, in addition to 12 stepgrandchildren and seven stepgreat-grandchildren. Sibling survivors include two sisters, Kathleen Pennesi-Everline and Dorothy J. Shives of Hagerstown.

The funeral service for Marguerite will be Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the main sanctuary of Episcopal Church of Our Savior, 535 W. Roses Road, San Gabriel, Calif. The Rev. Gary Bradley will conduct the service and interment in the adjacent San Gabriel Cemetery. A reception immediately following the service will be held in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society or charity of choice.
