Eight recent burglaries in Hagerstown may be connected

January 06, 2012

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — The Hagerstown Police Department suspects that eight recent burglaries in the city are connected.

Factors such as method, type of property stolen and time of day link the burglaries, which started at the beginning of December, police said Friday in a news release.

All of the burglaries have been east of Prospect Street, police said. Six are known to have happened during the day.

In each case, someone forced his or her way into a home, usually by breaking the glass in a door.

Items such as jewelry, electronics and collectibles — all of which can quickly be sold — have been stolen, along with cash, the release said.

Police said they have put extra officers on patrol. Auxiliary police are helping with patrols and are alerting residents in affected areas about the burglaries.

A cash reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of whoever is committing the crimes.

Anyone with information may call 301-790-3700 or send an email to crimetip@hagerstownpd.org. Callers or emailers must identify themselves to be eligible for a reward.
