Filing deadline approaches for local, state and federal primary election in Maryland

January 06, 2012

People who want to run in this year’s local, state and federal primary elections have only a few more days to file as candidates.

The filing deadline is 9 p.m. on Wednesday, which is 83 days before the April 3 primaries.

All candidates for state and federal offices must file at the Maryland State Board of Elections at 151 West St. in Annapolis.

The state has authorized two local boards of elections — in Washington and Wicomico counties — to be satellite locations for candidates filing to run for delegate to the national convention.

Candidates for offices in Washington County file at the county board of elections at 35 W. Washington St., room 101, Hagerstown.

State and local candidates must provide evidence that they’ve filed a financial disclosure statement and established a candidate committee at the state board.

More information about the elections can be found at the state board’s website, www.elections.state.md.us, or Washington County’s elections website, www.washco-md.net/election/elect1.html.

The general election will be Nov. 6.
