CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — No one was injured in a gas-related fire at an apartment building in Chambersburg on Thursday night.

Chambersburg Emergency Services Chief William FitzGerald said the fire as 142 Lincoln Way West (U.S. 30) was dispatched shortly before 8 p.m., and fire crews were off the scene at 9:15 p.m.

He said a gas-fed fire in the floor of Apt. 3 caused the evacuation of the building.

No one was displaced by the fire in the floor of the kitchen, he said.

“Apparently there was some work done in the apartment earlier in the day,” FitzGerald said. “Either they had a (gas) leak or a crack, and it got a source of ignition.”

He said the gas company and Chambersburg Borough’s electric department was on the scene.

U.S. 30 was closed to traffic from Memorial Square in Chambersburg to Franklin Street for about an hour, FitzGerald said.

Fire crews from Chambersburg, New Franklin and Lettterkenny responded.

No further investigation will be conducted, FitzGerald  said.
