Fire causes $80,000 damage to Boonsboro home

BOONSBORO — A basement fire in a Boonsboro home that started in a woodstove caused an estimated $80,000 in damage, the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office said Thursday.

The fire was reported at 3:08 p.m. in a single-story rancher at 7414 Mountain Laurel Road, according to a fire marshal’s office news release.

It took 40 firefighters about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control, the release said. One firefighter suffered a shoulder injury and was taken to Meritus Medical Center east of Hagerstown.

Damages were estimated at $75,000 to the structure and $5,000 to the contents, the fire marshal’s office said.

Firefighters from Boonsboro, Mt. Aetna, Funkstown, Smithsburg, Halfway, and Washington and Frederick counties responded to the scene.

The homeowners are listed as Jarrett and Laura Rottmund, according the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation’s website.
