Mail Call - Jan. 5

January 04, 2012

“I have witnessed and heard of numerous thefts at stores. Why do businesses let them get away with it? People shoplift, and then try to return the items for cash. Is it too petty to prosecute? What (kind of people) do this?”
— Hagerstown

“I was calling, I lived in Maryland for 60 years and moved down to Falling Waters, and my concern was every time you buy a Mega Millions ticket in Maryland, it has to benefit the Stadium Authority down in Baltimore, Md. I was born and raised up in Western Maryland.”
— Falling Waters, W.Va.

“Pedestrians usually have the right of way, and if I’m already walking, if you’re (in) that big of a hurry, you don’t belong on the road. And I think the cops out there need to be aware of that. People need to realize that not everybody ... some people need to slow down when driving a car. They say alcohol and cellphones are bad. Well, just common sense and mannerisms behind the wheel (are) much appreciated.”
— Hagerstown

“Someone in authority in the postal office needs to take a look at things and see what’s going on with this mail. Lots of us are receiving coupons (that are) already outdated. My daughter sent us Christmas cards two weeks before Christmas, and we haven’t seen them yet. It’s just a heck of a mess. I don’t know what the problem is, but somebody has to take a look at things and get it straightened out, whatever it might be.”
— Sharpsburg

“I’d like to thank the three ladies and their daughters, on Tuesday, the 27th of December ... I had a diabetes attack, and they helped me to sit down and gave me candy and chocolate. They stayed with me until I got better. Thank you, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. You all have a healthy and very good new year.”
— Williamsport

“For everyone who visited, sang carols, played musical instruments, made homemade cookies for us: You made our lives much richer, by sharing yourselves. From a nursing home resident who’s very grateful.”
— Hedgesville, W.Va.

“This is for the Tri-State area, and it’s an appeal. We only have three veterans auxiliary and associations in the area that provides honor guard burials for veterans. They do this free of charge. The legion does not give them any money, mileage or food or anything else for that. Consider that when there’s a request, when a person passes as a veteran gets an honor guard, for a small donation.”
— Leitersburg

“Why is it whenever you go into the Hagerstown post office — which is so dimly lit on the outside anyway — you have to step over the homeless people, say, after 9 or 10 o’clock at night every night on these cold nights, to get to the mailbox. It is really a shame, and something should be done about it, the homeless sleeping in there on a nightly basis. I thought they had shelters for them, not the post office.”
— Hagerstown

“This is for the person from Charles Town, W.Va. I totally agree with you that President Obama has to go. He’s done nothing but ruin this country, and brought this country down. All he wants to do is blame everybody else and not accept any responsibility for himself. I, too, believe the American public should get rid of him. Obama must go. Please, somebody, please get him out of office.”
— Hagerstown
