Railroad Lane added to town street system
The Smithsburg Town Council Tuesday night agreed to add Railroad Lane to the town’s street system.
The lane, which runs parallel to West Water Street, was supposed to be added to the town’s street system years ago when two parcels of land were subdivided along the lane, town officials said.
The agreement to turn over the lane to the town was written about 10 years ago, but the transfer of ownership was never finalized, Mayor Mildred “Mickey” Myers said.
Myers said the town has used Railroad Lane for years.

Council approves tougher hydrant parking ordinance
The Smithsburg Town Council Tuesday night gave final approval to an ordinance that will require people to park at least 15 feet from fire hydrants in the town.
Vehicles in town had been required to park 5 feet from fire hydrants.
The new ordinance is designed to follow a state requirement for parking distances from hydrants, Town Manager Betsy Martin has said.
Designation of the new parking areas around hydrants will be phased in as the town does street painting for parking spaces, Mayor Mildred “Mickey” Myers said.
