Mrs. McDaniel graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1950 and enrolled in various courses throughout her life at Hagerstown Community College.
She retired from Washington County Public Schools, having held various executive secretary positions, including at E. Russell Hicks; she completed her career in the psychology department. Her first secretarial position was at the Olmsted Air Force Base in Middletown, Pa.
Upon retirement, Mrs. McDaniel became a member of Hagerstown's Lioness Club and Women's Club, in which she served on various committees. She maintained her interest and support of animal protection organizations (SPCA, humane society and various wildlife organizations) and local service organizations (Girls Club) throughout her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra Ann Roane of Rockville, Md., and stepson, Joseph Martin McDaniel of Hagerstown; a sister and brother-in-law, Yvonne and Ralph Martin of Hagerstown; and a brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Joan Scott of Hanover, Pa. Mrs. McDaniel's memorial service is planned within the next month, to allow her to make her final contribution to society.
In lieu of flowers, she would prefer memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society of Washington County or to Heaven and Earth Animal Rescue Team (HEART) of Raleigh (heartpetrescue.org), which introduced Mrs. McDaniel to her beloved Westie, Haddie.
