CROSS JUNCTION, Va. — A Berkeley Springs, W.Va., man was shot to death early New Year's Day at a home in Frederick County, Va., according to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.

Michael Scott Shirley, 27, was found dead shortly after 1:10 a.m. at 1373 South Timber Ridge Road near Cross Junction, Va., sheriff's office Capt. John Heflin said.

Bradley Scott Gregory, 27, of Winchester, Va., was charged with first-degree murder, Heflin said. He was also charged with use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Gregory was an acquaintance of Shirley's, and both men were visiting the home on South Timber Ridge Road, he said.

After a bond-review hearing Tuesday, Gregory was being held without bond at the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center, a detention center spokesman said.

An autopsy was performed Monday at the Virginia Department of Forensic Science in Manassas, Heflin said.
