James E. Scuffins, 74

James Edward "Jim" Scuffins, 74, of 11310 Grouse Lane North, Hagerstown, Md., passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born Monday, May 31, 1937, in Boonsboro, Md., he was the son of the late Charles Edward Scuffins and the late Elsie M. Turner Scuffins Young. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Donald W. Young.

He graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1955 and later attended Hagerstown Junior College.

He also was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was employed with Tri-State Electric for 43 years, retiring in 2003.

Jim was a member of the Washington Square United Methodist Church, Funkstown American Legion Post 211, Eagles Aerie Lodge 694, and a life member of AMVETS Post 10 and The Improved Order of Red Men Tribe 84.

Jim enjoyed coaching youth baseball and basketball, and later began officiating youth sports and volunteered with the HCC Athletic Boosters.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Anna Lee (Mills) Scuffins; daughter, Stacey Anne Scuffins Best and husband, George, of New Market, Md.; son, Jeffrey L. Scuffins of Williamsport, Md.; granddaughter, Chloe Rebecca Best of New Market; sister, Rebecca L. Reel and husband, Frank, of Hagerstown; niece, Delissa Key of Hagerstown; half sister, Cynthia Scuffins Albin of Funkstown, Md.; and stepbrother, Richard A. Young of Ridgeley, W.Va.

Services will be held Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Jerry L. Lowans officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, from 1 to 2 p.m.

Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
