Thursday, Jan. 12  — Soil management update workshop titled “Making Your Manure Inputs Work Their Best for Your Farm.” Penn State Extension, 181 Franklin Farm Lane Chambersburg, Pa. Thursday, Jan. 12 — “Valuing Pennsylvania Forests,” 7 p.m. at the Cumberland County Extension, 310 Allen Road, Carlisle, Pa. You do not have to be a member and there is no cost to attend. Speaker will be James Finley, Penn State professor of forest resources.

Saturday Jan. 21 — “Year of the Dragon,” 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Ag Heritage Building, rooms 7 and 8. Help celebrate the Year of the Dragon by attending an interactive, multisensory workshop designed to explore ancient Oriental wisdom that can guide residents in creating inviting environments, indoors and out. Incorporate traditional Asian techniques into gardening. Cost is $15. To register, call Jennifer Wetzel at the extension office at 717-263-9226.

Tuesday, Jan. 24 — Franklin County Graziers Winter Conference 2012, Franklin County Ag Heritage Center, Chambersburg. The registration deadline is Jan. 17, and the cost is $10, which includes lunch. For more information, call the Franklin County Penn State Extension Office at 263-9226.

Friday, Jan. 27 — Joint annual meeting of the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Association and Franklin County Conservation District, 7 to 9  p.m., Solomon’s Lutheran Church, Chambersburg. Tickets cost $12.50 for adults and $6 for those ages 5 to 11. Tickets can be purchased from any board member, or at the Extension office by calling 717- 263-9226, or conservation district at 717-264-5499 on the Franklin Farm campus. The deadline for purchasing tickets is Jan. 20.

To reach the Washington County Extension office, drive about seven miles south of Hagerstown from the I-70 exit onto Sharpsburg Pike. The office is in the Washington County Agricultural Education Center complex.

The Franklin County, Pa., Extension office is at 181 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg. From Hagerstown, take Interstate 81 north to the U.S. 30 east exit. Take the first road to the left, which is Franklin Farm Lane.

The Jefferson County, W.Va., Extension office is in Suite 3 at 1948 Wiltshire Road, Kearneysville, W.Va. Call 304-728-7413.
