Frederick County man dies in New Year's Eve motorcycle accident

FREDERICK, Md. — A Frederick County man died Sunday from injuries he sustained when he lost control of his motorcycle on New Year’s Eve, according to Maryland State Police.

Lewis Thomas Legg Jr., 39, of Woodsboro, Md., was taken to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore by helicopter after the 12:36 p.m. accident on U.S. 15 near the Hayward Road intersection, police said.

Legg was northbound when he lost control of the motorcycle and slid across both lanes into the median, according to police. Legg was thrown from the motorcycle and struck a guardrail in the median, police said.

Legg was wearing a helmet, but police said it was not approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Debris from the crash struck another vehicle, police said.
