Starting weight-loss contest

At the last meeting of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0446, George won the ha-ha prize. Mary was the thinner winner, losing 3.6 pounds over the Christmas holiday. She also presented a program on weight-loss resolutions.

With the next weigh-in, the chapter begins a new three-month, 15-pound-loss contest for those who want to participate. Sign-up for the contest ends Jan. 11. The contest will run through the first weigh-in in April.

The group meets Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road, Hagerstown. Weigh-in is from 8:45 to 9:20 a.m. For more information, call Mary or Tom at 301-797-2547, or Judy at 301-739-9279.

The best TOPS losers for the week were Carol LeClaire and JoAnn M., while the best KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) losers were Maida Law and Dottie Zimmerman. Louise Kline and Mary Jo Cunningham won the quarterly no-no prize for their attendance record and total weight loss.  

The no-no snack for this week is chips.

Cleo Burger’s name was drawn for the ha-ha prize. JoAnn M. won the monthly get-r-done prize and Jean Betker won for KOPS.

The program consisted of a group discussion and an inspirational reading by Patsy Price. Mary Jo and Dottie will lead the next contest, which is called “It’s Snowing.”

Collections for the humane society will continue through Jan. 16.

The group meets Mondays at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave. in Hagerstown.
