Wilhelmina McClain Smith, 87, of 17502 York Road, Hagerstown, Md., died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at Homewood at Williamsport.

To all who were blessed to make her acquaintance, "Willie" was an angel. Selfless, compassionate, and patient with all, she was always honest and true with God's plan in mind. All of her family and friends are better people, having known her. Just by being near her, her light would shine on you and brighten your spirit. Her love is eternal. She was a Christian, a child of God, and truly did his will and has earned her reward now in Heaven. Hallelujah!

Born Thursday, April 10, 1924, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Edward McClain and Muriel Causher.

She spent 32 years as a teacher at Paramount, Broadway and Lincolnshire Elementary schools. She was a lifelong member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school for 56 years. She was also a member of the National Teachers Association, Maryland Retired Teachers Association and the Washington County Retired Teachers Association. She served as a parent aide in the Exchange Club to prevent child abuse.

She is survived by her daughter, Deborah A. Clouser of Oil City, Pa.; sister, Mary K. Kroll of Bloomington, Ind.; grandchildren, Christopher Clouser, Amanda Clouser and Joshua Clouser; and great-grandchildren, Cara Ritchey, Cameron Clouser, Ashley Ritchey, Demetrius Proano and Desiree Proano. She is also survived by her niece/caregiver, Judy Semler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Miller Smith, who passed away March 11, 2002; and her sister, Doris Ann McFadden.

Services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd., Hagerstown.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home, Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
