MERCERSBURG, Pa. — Whitetail Resort is expected to open its doors for skiing and snowboarding Friday at 8:30 a.m.

Whitetail officials anticipate opening with limited beginner terrain, and open more terrain the following week.

Whitetail Adventure Snow Tubing will open at a later date.

Whitetail Resort invested $2.8 million in capital improvements during the summer months.

Heading the list of improvements is the addition of new Techno-Alpin fan guns on the Fanciful Trail. This will enable the trail to open earlier and stay open later in the season. The Fanciful trail also has new lighting this season that will allow it to be open for night skiing and snowboarding.

Whitetail also added new rental equipment. The new adult Elan skis and adult and children's Dalbello boots along with 600 new adult Burton snowboards will provide guests with higher-performance rental equipment to improve their experience.

Guests can also look forward to a new loading carpet on the EZ Rider Quad chairlift to help beginning skiers and snowboarders get on safely and easily, and reduce line congestion on busy days.

The Dec. 30 opening is a little later than the past two years, Don MacAskill, Whitetail Resort president, said in a news release.

"The month of December has been milder than we would have liked to see, but now that cold weather has arrived, our state-of-the-art snowmaking system will allow us to open our terrain quickly and to put down a lot of snow. There is a lot of winter remaining, and we plan to be open for skiing and snowboarding well into late March," MacAskill said.
