December 28, 2011

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The Martinsburg Police Department was looking for a man who pulled a knife on a clerk during a robbery attempt Tuesday at a food market on Winchester Avenue.

Witnesses told officers that the incident happened at about 7 p.m., when a man with his face partially covered entered the Mercado Le Bueno Fe #2 International Food Market at 531 Winchester Ave. and demanded money, according to a police department news release.

The man had a hand in one of his pockets and pointed it at the clerk as if he had a weapon, police said. He then pulled a large knife from his jacket and attempted to grab the clerk.

The release said the man fled when another employee came from the back of the store.

Officers said the man, who did not obtain any money or goods, fled on foot to the north of Winchester Avenue Plaza.
