BOONSBORO, Md. — A Keedysville teenager has been charged with first-degree assault and other offenses after a Boonsboro couple was shot with paintball guns on Dec. 12.
Rockey Weston Rutherford, 18, of 5407 Porterstown Road, was charged with two counts each of first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment and one count each of malicious destruction of property and disturbing the peace, Boonsboro police said. An arrest warrant was served on Rutherford on Tuesday by the Washington County Warrant Task Force, police said.
Sgt. Kevin Morgan of the Boonsboro Police Department received a call at about 10 p.m. on Dec. 12 from a resident on Elmcrest Avenue, police said. The man said he and his wife heard a knock at the door and when they answered the door, five youths shot them numerous times with paintball guns, police said.
A short time later, a similar incident was reported on Monroe Road, police said.
A Maryland State Police trooper and a Washington County Sheriff's Department deputy stopped a vehicle leaving that area, police said. Rutherford was the driver of the vehicle, which also was occupied by four juveniles, police said.
Inside the vehicle, police found paintball and soft pellet guns, police said.
The juveniles were referred to Juvenile Services, police said.
Similar incidents were under investigation, police said.
