Franklin County Extension organizes robotics competition team

December 22, 2011

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Penn State Extension 4-H in Franklin County, Pa., is teaming with JCPenney to establish a robotics program in which a team of youth, ages 14 to 18, will build a robot for competition.

An information session will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at the Ag Heritage Center, 185 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg, Pa.

The FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) program is based around a six-week design-and-build session in which teams are given a kit of parts and a game-like task to perform.

The program begins in January. All materials are provided. Participants do not have to be 4-H members to join.

The team will enter the robot in a regional competition in March in Pittsburgh.

Anyone wishing to attend is asked to contact Karen Hack at 717-263-9226 or ksh1@psu.edu.
