Williamsport boys finish second in relays

PREP INDOOR TRACK

Williamsport finished second in the boys team standings at the Dwight Scott Western Maryland Relays on Wednesday at Hagerstown Community College.

Linganore topped the 15-team field with 48 points, while Williamsport was the runner-up with 41 1/2 and Walkersville was third with 39.

Williamsport won two of the nine events — the 1,600 sprint medley (3:48.07) and the 4x55 shuttle hurdles (30.59) — and took third in the 4x400 (3:40.69) and third in the distance medley (11:00.62).

The Smithsburg boys placed second in the 4x200 (1:37.27), third in the pole vault relay and finished seventh overall.

In girls action, North Hagerstown placed second in the 4x800 (10:27.97) and third in the 4x200 (1:54.51), Williamsport was third in the 4x400 (4:30.10) and Boonsboro was third in the distance medley (13:37.79) and third in the pole vault relay.

Middletown won with 43 points, while Boonsboro was the top Washington County girls team, placing fifth (22).



BOYS BASKETBALL

Goretti 71, MSD 46

FREDERICK, Md. —  Yannick Zanfack had a game-high 16 points and added seven rebounds to lead St. Maria Goretti to a victory over the Maryland School for the Deaf.

Martin Geben had 14 points, four blocks and four rebounds, while Tyrus Fleetwood had 11 points and 10 assists for the Gaels (6-5). Shae King had 10 points and eight rebounds.

Grace Academy 42, CVCS 30

Eric Boutiellier scored a season-high 16 points to lead Grace Academy to a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference win on Tuesday.

Alan Liu added 10 points and eight rebounds for Grace (3-8, 1-4).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Catoctin 49, N. Hagerstown 41

THURMONT, Md. — Iman Scott led North Hagerstown ith 15 points, six rebounds and three assists in the Hubs’ MVAL Antietam loss to Catoctin.

Autumn Fisher had nine points and five rebounds and Crystal McLeod had eight points, four assists and three steals for the Hubs (2-3).

Kendall Zickefoose had 14 points and Kelsey Phelan added 13 for Catoctin (4-2).



BRIEF

Holiday track meet at HCC

The Mountain Express Holiday Invitational indoor track and field meet for athletes of all ages and abilities will be held Dec. 28 at Hagerstown Community College.

Registration will be held from 8:15 to 9:30 a.m. and events begin at 10.
