Maryland State Police trooper injured after being struck by vehicle

FREDERICK, Md. — A Maryland State Police trooper was flown to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore after he was struck by a vehicle on Ballenger Center Drive Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Trooper 1st Class Sean P. McCarty was investigating a vehicle crash that occurred on Ballenger Center Drive east of Ballenger Creek Pike when he was struck about 4:15 p.m., according to a news release.

McCarty was standing outside his cruiser when he was hit and he was pinned between his car and the vehicle that hit him, the release said.

McCarty was released from the hospital after being treated for minor injuries, police said in a news release issued just before 10 p.m.

An investigation is continuing.
