Maryland and Pennsylvania residents teamed up with Fort Ritchie Community Center to collect clothing, food and other items for the less fortunate in our area. The Cascade-based center sponsored its fourth annual Charity Week from Sunday, Dec. 4, through Saturday, Dec. 10.

Area residents collected bags of gloves and mittens, toys, boxes of food, items for nursing homes, pet supplies, baby items and more than 50 coats. The goods were all collected at the center, which then distributed them to various nonprofit groups in the area.

Bev Coyle, Fort Ritchie Community Center public relations director, noted that the community center this year provided items for Hope Alive, Pregnancy Ministries, Antietam and Washington County Humane Societies, the food bank in Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., the Welfare Association and a local nursing home.

In addition, several hundred holiday cards were signed by people visiting the center. These will be sent to military personnel.

And, Fort Ritchie Community Center capped off the week with its Holiday Craft Bazaar on Dec. 10.

For more information, visit the center at 14421 Lake Royer Drive in Cascade, call 301-241-5085 or go to www.thefrcc.org.
