Roger Lee Reedy, 68, of 10326 Mar Rock Drive, Hagerstown, Md., passed away Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at his home after a brief fight with lung cancer.

Born Saturday, April 3, 1943, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Donald E. Reedy of Hagerstown and the late Helen Carbaugh Reedy.

He was of the Methodist faith.

Roger graduated from North Hagerstown High School in 1961.

He joined the U.S. Navy after graduation, and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam War. He proudly served aboard the Navy ships USS Southernland DDR and the USS Wright CC-2 as a radioman. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1966, and attended barber school and was owner and operator of Reedy’s Barber Shop in Hagerstown’s West End for 45 years, retiring April 3, 2005.

He was a member of AMVETS Post 10 and Funkstown American Legion Post 211. He was a member of the Blue and Grey Chapter of the Model T Ford Club of America and a member of the Model T Club of America. His other love besides his family was his Ford Model T’s. He spent most of his retirement restoring and driving his model T’s through the countryside. His other passion was spending his summers on the beach of Ocean City, Md. He thought of his beach friends and his fellow car club members as his extended family.

Besides his father, he is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Cheryl L. Reedy, whom he married April 1, 1967; daughters, Kelly L. Bishop of Hagerstown, and Christy L. Stephens and husband, Douglas, of Hagerstown; brothers, Donald E. Reedy and Paul “Ed” Reedy, both of Hagerstown; granddaughters, Kiersten Burger, Tiffany Bishop and soon-to-be granddaughter, Emmalee Stephens; grandsons, Jaden Suder and Nathaniel “Nate” Walls; and nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with Pastor Ernest Pletcher officiating. Military honors will be performed by the U.S. Navy.

His family will receive friends and family at the funeral home on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, from 6 to 9 p.m. Interment will be private.
