FALLING WATERS, W.Va. — Motorists on Interstate 81 should expect minor nighttime delays in the vicinity of exit 23 for Marlowe/Falling Waters beginning Monday due to ongoing construction to widen the highway to six lanes there, the West Virginia Division of Highways announced Thursday.

Northbound motorists will be diverted to newly constructed lanes in the median of the highway on Monday night and southbound motorists are scheduled to be shifted on Tuesday night, officials announced.

Weather conditions could impact the scheduled traffic pattern changes, the DOH said in the announcement.

The change is needed to begin the next phase of the project to widen the I-81 bridge over U.S. 11 at exit 23.

The project, which is expected to be completed late next year, will result in the construction of three lanes in each direction on Interstate 81, officials.
