Robert (Bob) Lewis Borngesser, 79, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 14, 2011, with his family at his side.

Bob was born to Andrew Borngesser and Nell Coy Keene in St. Joseph, Mo.

He is predeceased by his parents, and his son, Christopher Lewis Borngesser.

He is leaving to cherish his memory his wife of 21 years, Brenda Price; his daughter, Catherine Bromwell and husband, Kraig; three beautiful granddaughters; his cousin, Charles Keene and wife, Joan; and a host of family and very dear friends.

Bob had a long and successful career in journalism, retiring from WHAG-TV as the news director in 1997. He continued for several more years writing commentaries. His career started in Fairfax, Va., as a news broadcaster on WFAX radio and then on WGMS radio. He broke into television by walking into WRC and getting a part-time weekend newscast. This was in 1968 when the Vietnam War protests were in full swing, Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King were assassinated, and there were full-scale civil rights marches and riots in Washington, D.C.  Eventually, he tired of the metropolitan pace and moved himself and his children to Hagerstown. It was there that he eventually met the love of his life, and had 21 blissful years as her husband.

The family will receive friends for a memorial service Saturday, Dec. 17 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church parish, 101 S. Prospect St., Hagerstown. Donations may be made in his honor to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742; St. John's Episcopal Church; the American Cancer Society; or Humane Society of Washington County, 13011 Maugansville Road, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
