Clyde M. Gaylor, 86, of Downsville, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, in the Pallative Care Unit at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

He was born July 12, 1925, in Downsville to the late Eli Albert and Minnie Blanche Shank Gaylor.

He was employed as an auto mechanic at Downsville Motors until retiring in 1987.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was a member of Downsville Church of the Brethren, Downsville.

He was an honorary member of Downsville Ruritan Club, a member of Chapter No. 14 Disabled American Veterans of Hagerstown, and Potomac Post No. 202 American Legion, Williamsport.

Survivors include his wife, Marian C. Shipley Gaylor of Downsville, whom he married Nov. 25, 1945, and they just celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary; daughter, Deborah K. Shoemaker of Urbana, Md.; sons, Clyde I. Gaylor and his wife Sandy of Downsville, M. Gene Gaylor of Williamsport, Dwight M. Gaylor and his wife Robin of Sykesville, Md., Garry L. Gaylor and his wife Cindy of Hagerstown, Jeffrey L. Gaylor of Williamsport, Joel E. Gaylor and his wife Ginny of Halfway, Darrin D. Gaylor and his wife Heather of Chambersburg, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; and sister, Virginia P. Jordan of Williamsport.

He was predeceased by six sisters and two brothers.

The family will receive friends at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, on Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. on Friday for the convenience of family and friends.

The funeral service will be held at Osborne Funeral Home on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Wilkie Nunn and the Rev. Brian H. Moore officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport. Military graveside services will be provided.
