Rodman "Rod" Sweeny, 87, of Hagerstown, Md., died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at Reeder's Memorial Home, Boonsboro, Md.
Born Dec. 21, 1923, in Boston, Mass., he was the son of the late William James Paul and Adele Vaidis (Allen) Sweeny. He was the husband of 67 years to Katherine Sue (Reese) Sweeny, Hagerstown, whom he married in May 1945.
Rod was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, where he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He graduated from Dartmouth College, Dartmouth, N.H., where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree. His advertising career with General Electric (International) Co. allowed him to travel the world.
After his retirement with GE, he became the owner and operator of Quality Quick Print in Hagerstown for more than 10 years.
Rod was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Hagerstown and the Hagerstown Exchange Club for many years.
In addition to his wife, Rod is survived by two sons, Roger A. Sweeny of Norwood, Mass., and Paul M. Sweeny of Binghamton, N.Y.; a daughter, Marian S. Hollander, also of Binghamton; and three grandchildren, Elizabeth W. Sweeny, George P. Sweeny and Sean P. Hollander.
In addition to his parents, Rod was preceded in death by a son, Eric B. Sweeny.
Rod's Celebration of Life Service will be announced at a later date.
