Mail Call - Dec. 12

December 12, 2011

“The article concerning the reorganization at the state prison, maybe the reporter should have asked Mr. Maynard or Erin Julius how much is this going to cost the taxpayers. I mean, it’s not going to be done for free, because you’re going to have to redo all the letterheads on the papers, have to do new signage, vehicle identification stickers, uniforms are going to have to be changed.”

— Washington County

“This is to the caller from Boonsboro complaining about seeing dead deer in The Herald-Mail. I myself like to see them in there.”

— Jugtown

“I have a solution to lower the budget. Take away senators’ and congressmen’s health care plan. They make good money and they can afford to buy their own. Make them punch a time clock, and they only get paid for when they’re there and at work. Wow, just think of the money we can save.”

— Hagerstown

“I’d like to say amen to Hank Hess for writing about the absurdity of a front license plate in Maryland. I personally have refused to mount the front license plate on my vehicle for the last 10 years because it’s absolutely ridiculous.”

— Smithsburg

“Newt Gingrich, you have got to be kidding. Forget the middle guy. With this man in our White House, money talks. He will look out for those people with deep pockets, plus his morals and telling the truth need to be checked. Please consider this when looking at this man again on your TV screen.”

“Government spending: We have 13 post offices in the Washington County area, yet they haul our mail to Baltimore to postmark it. What happened to the new post office they built? And not only that, the drivers on the rural routes don’t get home until 6 and 7 o’clock at night. They miss all their children’s after-school activities, and they don’t have much time to help do homework. I think it’s a waste of our taxpayers’ money, and I wish someone would protest it, and get all the school buses in Washington County and take them to Baltimore.”

— Maugansville

“I’ve been following this on TV, about this Cain and this affair he had. Why don’t they bring Gingrich up, too? ... I think they should treat both of them the same. I’m not voting for either one of them, but it’s not right to criticize one and let the other one go.”

— Hagerstown

“Congratulations to the fourth-graders of Fountaindale school. ‘Go West’ was a grand, grand success. A big thank you to the music teacher, the dance teacher, and to all the staff and all the students, and all the teachers, for a wonderful, wonderful evening. We certainly did enjoy ourselves. Keep up the good work, Fountaindale.”

— Washington County

“I just was trying to see if I can get any suggestions for a sick pet. I am a pet owner with a dog that is very sick. They will not do surgery in Hagerstown, Md. It will have to be done in a bigger city, and you know the vets will not work with you as far as letting you make payments, nowadays with the economy the way it is. Vets are just like doctors. They want their money upfront. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.”

— Hagerstown

“I live on North Prospect Street, near where the dump trucks go back to the scrap yard. Those big dump trucks need to slow down. There are a lot of children around this neighborhood, and those trucks fly in and out of that driveway. So please slow down before you cause an accident or worse.”

— Hagerstown
