Calvin E. Bricker Sr., 85, of Mercersburg, Pa., died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at Chambersburg Hospital, with his family by his side, after a lengthy illness.

Born May 7, 1926, and raised in Claylick, Pa., he was a son of the late Ellis and Cora Carbaugh Bricker.

Calvin attended Claylick School.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Most of his life was spent as a self-employed electrician. He also worked for Cumberland Valley Power Co. and Mercersburg Academy. He owned and operated Bricker's Grocery Store in Welsh Run, Pa., for four years. After retirement, he enjoyed raising fruits and vegetables. He enjoyed hunting and was an avid reader.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Betty J. Smith Bricker, whom he married Sept. 13, 1947; seven children, Julia (Mrs. Leroy) Robinson, Doris (Mrs. James) Moreland and Della Bricker, all of Mercersburg, Calvin Jr. and wife, Diane Bricker, of Greencastle, Pa., Carolyn Fredericks of Woodbridge, Va., Twila (Mrs. Tom) Lytle of Springfield, Va., and Mary Texter of Chambersburg, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Grace (Mrs. Richard) Rummel of Hagerstown, Md., and Evelyn Shore of Mercersburg.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, with the Rev. W. David Kent officiating. Burial will be in Welsh Run Brethren Church Cemetery.

Viewing will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
